ANNAX Customer Specific Displays (Stretched Displays)

To provide passengers with an increasing amount of information is purpose and priority for passenger information systems. But the architecture and design of railway vehicles often leaves only a limited amount of space and area for displays in the common 4:3 or 16:9 formats. The licensed Stretched Display technology of ANNAX allows the efficient production of displays in new formats, which can be installed in areas of a vehicle which were previously unavailable. ANNAX provides the successful LED backlight technology for the new Stretched Displays, and thanks to the available luminosity between 300 cd to 1500 cd per square metre, great readability and high contrast are ascertained for both interior and exterior display applications. The usage of proved and tested TFT and LED technology ensures a high reliability and long-life cycle of ANNAX products.

 

ANNAX Stretched Display Produktion

In the year 2012 ANNAX acquired the license to cut and reseal TFT displays from Tannas Electronics. The new, licensed technology allows ANNAX to cut regular TFT displays down to a customer and application specific size. Since the TFT displays are immediately resealed after being cut, the displays retain all of their functionality, technical characteristics and longevity they had before the process. This new technology is a strategic investment of ANNAX to stay technologically ahead in the area of passenger information displays. ANNAX produces Stretched Displays at its own site in Suzhou (LINK). The entire production process stays within the company. By implementing this new technology and keeping the production process within the company, ANNAX remains a leading provider of customer specific solution in the area of display technology for the passenger information system market.

ANNAX Fleet Management System

The Fleet Management System (FMS) of ANNAX is is used to manage a railway fleet and the integrated passenger information system. It enables data transmissions between cabs, control centres and devices within a vehicle. The system can be expanded with additional, customer-specific functions.

The FMS enables functions like the fetching and display of status information, like operation status and position of a vehicle via GPS, but also maintainence information, like the availability of software upgrades, and application-specific data for CCTV systems or automatic passenger counting.

In addition to that, the FMS can provide passenger relvant content. This includes a seat reservation system, the planning and compilation of travel routes or information for connecting trains. The display of entertainment and advertising content is just as easy as relaying news or weather information. Large volumes of data are transferred quickly, safely and reliably. The security of transferred data is ensured via the encryption vy preconfigured keys. If a data transfer is unexpectatedly aborted, the FMS system will automatically restart the connection and resume the transmission.

Train Intercom Unit – TIU

The TIU is used by train personnel to communicate with each other and to receive e.g. service calls from passenger communication units (PCU). The unit also allows making public announcements, which will be heard via the train’s service loudspeakers. The housing of the TIU can be customised to fit the specifications and dimensions of the train.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Passenger Communication Unit – PCU

The passenger communication unit allows passengers to communicate with train personnel. The operation status and connection status of the PCU is displayed via LEDs. The housing of the TIU can be customised to fit the specifications and dimensions of the train.


 

 

 

 

ANNAX Audio Technology

 

 

IP-Amplifier

The IP-Amplifier is an autonomous amplifier, which receives speech data via Ethernet and via UIC. The device consists of a standard rack with a width of 42 TE and a height if 3HE, an amplifier component (Type Ramp) and a power component (RP110, RP72 or RP36, depending on available voltage). The amplifier contains 4 independent amplifier circuits with 2 x 25 Watt and 2 x 3 Watt respectively. Loudspeakers can be connected via 100V method or via low-impedance connection. The IP-Amplifier can be delivered with or without an inbuilt transmitter.

Next to the four loudspeaker circuits, up to 3 microphones can be connected to the amplifier. An example for a possible application would be a measuring microphone to automatically regulate the sound level or a service microphone for the vehicle driver.

In addition the amplifier is equipped with two serial interfaces RS485, which can be used to connect matrix displays or a seat reservation system.

 

 

 

Exterior Service Loudspeaker

This weatherproof exterior loudspeaker is used to emit public exterior announcements to passengers and personnel outside the train.

This loudspeaker is meant to be installed in the driver cab of the train. It serves to output announcements and calls from passengers or other train personnel to the driver.

ANNAX WLAN based On-Board communication system

The On-Board WLAN communication system by ANNAX connects mobile TCUs, the land-based control centre, passenger communication units and train communication units with each other. The system's technology provides a secure connection and fast, high-quality audio transfer.

 

 

 

ANNAX Powerline - Network Connections over Vehicle Couplings

The coupling of two vehicle compositions happens several times a day under very rough conditions, which renders the safe transmission of signals and data a difficult task.

Powerline is an IP communication solution which allows establishing a safe and stable Ethernet connection between two vehicle compositions.

The ANNAX PowLine technology transforms the ETH data traffic of the network into a high-frequency signal and transmits the signal via induction to the existing conductors of the other composition.

The data transfer rate reaches up to 40 to 80 Mbit per second, depending on the material and length of the conductors (PLC latency time ca. 10ms).

ANNAX PIS Controller

The PIS Controller is the central component of the passenger information system. It contains time schedule data, the ELA and the interfaces for displays, Intercom Units and other components. It also administrates the communication between train control and the land-based railway control centre.
 
Other duties include setting the priority for on-board intercom calls, controlling LED and TFT displays, administrating route map data, handling of internal and external communication, and managing the CCTV system. Additionally, the controller establishes the connection with the Train Communication Management System (TCMS) and operates the traction interface.
 
The PIS Controller consists of a standard rack with a width of 84/42 TE and a height of 3 HE, to which other components are added as needed. For example, the controller (Type REC2), an amplifier component (Type RAMP), a power supply (RP110, RP72 or RP36 depending on on-board voltage) and other components, like the UIC interface or RIO2.
